Forget Mate X! Apple's foldable device is the one you should be waiting for
New report claims that Apple will launch its foldable smartphone and it will be sooner than you think.
The time of the foldable phones is nearing with Samsung and Huawei both set to debut their handsets by September 2019. After ironing out all the kinks and redesigning certain aspects of the handset; both brands are confident that their respective foldable smartphones will be a success. Samsung has already been testing its Galaxy Fold and new reports have emerged which claim that the handset will launch by September 20, 2019. The Huawei Mate X launch, on the other hand, is not yet known, but the September time frame has been finalized. Both brands need their respective smartphones to work as another player appears to be looming close as it has fans that are willing to pay whatever to get their hands on a foldable device from this company.
The latest reports regarding foldable smartphones come via CNBC who claims that Apple is working on a foldable device that’s not a smartphone but a tablet. As per CNBC, a new research note by UBS claims that folding gadgets are a part of Apple’s pipeline. UBS states Samsung is the brand that dominates intellectual property filings when it comes to foldable devices and a report by Forbes states that Samsung “is likely to be in the vanguard of the technology.” However, Apple follows the ideology of don’t do things first but rather do it right. This means that Apple has something up its sleeve that could revolutionize or at the very least make this technology mainstream.
UBS claims that a foldable device from Apple could make an appearance next year but a 2021 release is looking like it’s going to be more of a possibility. UBS has claimed that the biggest issue with a foldable device is its cost. A smartphone or a tablet with this technology is more expensive to develop than manufacturing a non-foldable device. UBS undertook a survey and found that customers are willing to pay a premium for a foldable device but not as much as some of the foldable smartphones are currently priced at.
Apple fans seem comfortable to pay more than rival manufacturers, but there is still a long way to go. The biggest market for a foldable device is China; with most have a reasonably high interest in it.
Forbes states, “What’s for sure is that Apple will be determined to avoid the issues Samsung and Huawei have hit upon so far. Samsung’s Galaxy Fold was withdrawn before it went on sale and Huawei’s folder was delayed, though both are likely to be released soon – perhaps in the next few weeks. Apple will want to ensure that everything falls into place before it reveals anything.”
