The Samsung Internet 5.4 seems to be a great browser with Samsung's modern interface. If you are using a Samsung device, then you should try it out once.

If you have used a Samsung Galaxy smartphone, you must have encountered the native browser in the phone’s lifecycle at least one. It has been always a simpler browser with basic functionalities and has been generally considered to be an unnecessary addition. However, with the new TouchWiz UI designed for the present generation smartphones, the Samsung browser also got a major overhaul. And it has become a proper Chrome rival.

Known as the Samsung Internet 5.4, the new browser offers a host of exciting features and extensions. Samsung offers a lot of interesting as well as useful extensions for the browser. For starters, there’s the CloseBy extension which is basically an IoT-to-browser application. It provides information about the surroundings, i.e. if a physical web beacon pushes a URL, CloseBy will notify the user. Samsung says that extension could be useful in places like bus stops with web beacons that push relevant URLs to your phone upon arrival.

Apart from that, there’s also a QR-Code reader extension to read QR-codes using the smartphone’s camera. The Quick Menu extension provides a floating button on your browser, which can be moved to other parts of the screen if wanted. This allows users to quickly access convenient features, including sharing, opening new tabs and modifying text size. The Video Assistant extension has an additional layer of functionality built into it – simply tap the ‘View on TV’ button to watch content on a connected television screen or tap the ‘View on Gear VR’ button to view the content with the Gear VR.

If you are using Samsung’s latest flagship – the Galaxy S8 or S8+, along with the DeX dock, then the Samsung Internet 5.4 can let you do even more. Multiple browsers can be opened at the same time, similar to multiple tab browsing, enabling users to work or shop with ease. While shopping, users can make online transactions securely by utilising the biometric payment features enabled on their Galaxy S8 or S8+. Another added benefit of Samsung Internet 5.4 is the ability for it to seamlessly toggle between mobile and desktop versions of the same page, depending on whether you are using your device or Samsung Dex to surf the internet.

If you don’t have the DeX dock with you, then you can enjoy your Samsung Internet’s bookmarks on Google Chrome through the Samsung Internet Chrome plug-in.
