iPhone 7 outsells the Galaxy S8 globally: Report

In what comes as a surprising news, Apple’s iPhone 7 was the top-selling smartphone in the markets across the world in the first half of 2017. The data comes from a research undertaken by IHS Markit and marks the 4.7-inch iPhone 7 as the top-selling smartphone in the world.

According to the research journal, The iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus dominated the charts for the first half of this year, followed by Samsung’s popular mid-range smartphone — the Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime Plus (the name’s still not long enough). The iPhone 6S from 2015 follows on fourth, followed by Samsung’s 2017 flagships — the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus at number fifth and sixth respectively. Other names that also became a part of this list were Oppo, Xiaomi and Huawei.

The report claims that Samsung’s S8 witnessed sluggish sales at the start of this year as compared to last year’s Galaxy S7. Meanwhile, the iPhone 7 marched ahead, despite being a generation older than the Galaxy S8 and sporting conventional displays.

The results clearly show that smartphone seekers across the world prefer Apple’s secure ecosystem, whether they are using the newer iPhone 7 Plus or the older iPhone 6S. The Samsung Grand Duos is a mid-range smartphone and is a popular choice in developing countries such as Brazil and India.

As for the Galaxy S8’s lower rank, “This is likely because Samsung began selling the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus models in April, a month later than last year’s launch of the S7 series,” said Jusy Hong, Associate Director, mobile devices for IHS Markit. “The shipment ranking of the Galaxy S8 Plus fell to number six, compared to the fourth-place Galaxy S7 Edge in 2016.”
