iOs 11.3 reportedly breaking iPhone 8/ 8 Plus display
iOS 11.3 is claimed to 'brick' iPhone 8 and 8 Plus units with third-party display panels.
iOS 11.3 is one of the most important updates for Apple’s iPhones in the recent years. The update brought in the highly sought-after Battery Health app, which enabled users to turn off the performance throttling on older iPhones. However, with every new iOS update, iPhone users often experience new bugs and issues. While iOS 11.3 has been reported to feature minor bugs here and there, one of the major ones has been unearthed by several iPhone 8 users — the display is rendered useless by the iOS 11.3 update.
As discovered by Motherboard, several users of the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus have been heard complaining about the display becoming unresponsive after installing the iOS 11.3 update. The phones keep working, but the display stops registering inputs. The problem isn’t widespread and is limited to selected users of the aforementioned iPhone models.
However, the report also states that only those units of the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus will experience the issue if they had undergone repairs through third-party services. If the display of your iPhone 8/ 8 Plus was replaced with a third-party unit, iOS 11.3 renders those panels useless. An in-depth analysis revealed that the display drivers for third-party iPhone 8 display panels aren’t supported by iOS 11.3, which leads to the display getting unresponsive.
As of now, if your iPhone 8/ 8 Plus is suffering from the same issue, then it’s advisable to get your phone checked at an authorised Apple service centre. Apple has disabled the downgrade option to iOS 11.2.6 and it seems that the Cupertino giant isn’t looking forward to fixing the issue for affected handsets.
