Forget 2019 iPhone! 2020 iPhone will come with revolutionary new design
Next year's iPhone will be an exciting device and it is expected to come without a notch and full-screen under-display Touch ID.
A shady rumour came out a few days ago which suggested Apple will be working on a new iPhone that’s exclusive for the Chinese market and it will come with an in-display fingerprint scanner. This technology is said to be cheaper than Face ID and it would substantially reduce the cost of the iPhone and recapture the Chinese market where it has been failing off late. In China, consumers are opting for cheaper Android devices that feature revolutionary specifications that cost half the price of what Apple offers its flagships for. Chinese brands such as Huawei, Vivo and OPPO have managed to sway Chinese consumers in their favour; leaving Apple in the lurch. In a bid to tackle the Chinese market Apple is reportedly making a China-specific handset that will come with features that the rest of the world would crave.
Now, the latest Apple leak suggests Apple will be launching four new iPhones next year. These include a cheaper iPhone 8 replacement, and could reintroduce Touch ID but in a whole new avatar. After this, reports are seeping in that suggest Apple’s iPhone plans for the coming years. The reports detail Apple has plans for gradually killing the iPhone’s notch with Face ID making an exit as well.
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has stated that one of the upcoming iPhones that will debut next year will feature a smaller notch in comparison to current iPhones. In what may be a confirmation about the tragic news about the 2019 iPhones, Ming-Chi Kuo states that the iPhone XS, XS Max and XR successors will feature the same display design as the current generation iPhones.
As per a related report by BGR, “The TrueDepth camera that powers Face ID requires several front-facing sensors that occupy plenty of space, hence the need for a notch. Keeping the notch in place for one more generation indicates that Face ID isn’t going away. But Apple may have found ways to reduce the size of that notch without affecting 3D face recognition functionality.”
Kuo went on to add that Apple will be shifting from 6P lenses to 7P lenses on the 2020 iPhones for the main cameras.
Another report from Credit Suisse claims that Apple’s suppliers are hard at work developing full-screen displays that don’t feature notches and they go on to suggest that Face ID may be eliminated completely in the 2021 iPhones.
The report by Credit Suisse claims that one 2020 iPhone will not ship with Face ID; however, it will feature a full-screen Touch ID in-display fingerprint scanner. By eliminating Face ID, and embedding the camera and fingerprint scanner under the screen, Apple will be able to achieve a perfect all-screen iPhone in 2021. The report claims that no iPhones in 2021 will come with notches as Face ID will be replaced entirely by full-screen Touch ID.
A report by BGR states, “If this info is legitimate, this would be a massive change for Apple considering all the effort that went into replacing Touch ID with Face ID on iPhone X and iPad Pro models. That’s one feature that Android makers had a tough time copying, with only Huawei, Xiaomi, and LG delivering phones with 3D face recognition so far. Google’s Pixel 4 is also expected to feature 3D face recognition and lack a fingerprint sensor. But Google’s phone will not have an all-screen display.”
