The demand was so huge that the company was unable to fulfil it, and is now planning to start producing the device in India.
According to a new report, Reliance has already started the production of the JioPhone in Chennai, however the contract manufacturer is still unknown. The Chinese manufacturer failed to meet the demands which lead the company to boost the production by manufacturing it in India.
If this continues, there’s a possibility that the company might miss the sales target of 200 million units by December 2018. The company has also failed to achieve the target to make 5 million JioPhones available every week. The company is yet to announce the second round of pre-orders where it seeks to cater 10 million potential users.
As for the specifications, the JioPhone comes with smart features despite being a feature phone. It offers 4G LTE and VoLTE connectivity. The company has put a software in it that doesn’t try to be a re-skinned JAVA OS. So, they went for the Kai OS that is based on the Firefox OS.
