New iPad Pro is better at rendering graphics than latest MacBook Pro
The new 12.9-inch and 10.5-inch iPad pro models fare better than Macbook models in terms of GPU core Geekbench 4 test.
If you have been seeing the new Apple iPad Pro adverts running on the web, you must have noticed that Apple is touting the iPad Pro as a better alternative to Microsoft Surface Pro 4 with a full-blown version of Windows 10. That may seem like a tall claim, especially about a tablet that runs on an operating system suitable for mobile devices. However, it seems that Apple is really serious about their claims according to a test on Geekbench 4.
A select number of devices were chosen for Geekbench and GFXBench tests, namely the 12.9-inch and 10.5-inch models of the iPad Pro from 2016 as well as 2017 along with the 2016 and 2017 Macbook Pro models.
Considering the GPU performance, the 2017 iPad Pro line-up outperform this year’s 13-inch MacBook Pro and the 2016 model as well in the Geekbench4 Compute Metal test. The 10.5-inch iPad Pro scored 27,814 followed by the 12.5-inch model’s 27,597. Comparatively, both the 2016 and the 2017 MacBook Pro models scored 27,631 and 26,353 respectively.
However, in the multi-core CPU tests, the 2017 MacBook Pro models outperformed all the iPad Pro models with a score of 10,261. But, the 2016 MacBook Pro models were beaten by the new iPad Pro models.
While it is known that stats on paper don’t often depict the real world performance scenarios, it gives us a fair idea about the improvement that Apple was talking about at this year’s WWDC event. It seems that the new iPad Pro models will be at home with resource intensive tasks like photo and video editing.
