Huawei has finally unveiled its latest flagship smartphones — Huawei Mate 10 and Huawei Mate 10 Pro, at an event held in Munich, Germany. The Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro sport a near-bezel less display and offer several features that claim to be better than the $999 Apple flagship, the iPhone X.

The Huawei Mate 10 sports a 5.9-inch QHD (1440 x 2560 pixels) LCD display with 16:9 aspect ratio, while the Mate 10 Pro offers a 6-inch full HD + (1080 x 2160 pixels) OLED panel with 18:9 aspect ratio. Both phones are powered by Huawei’s own home-brewed HiSilicon Kirin 970 SoC, featuring four Cortex-A73 cores clocked at 2.36GHz, four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.8GHz, and an i7 co-processor, along with the Mali-G72 Mp12 GPU and Huawei’s own Neural Processing Unit (NPU). Huawei is also betting high on AI with this new chipset and claims that it will support features like bokeh effect on photos. The Kirin 970 SoC is so powerful that one can simply connect the device to a monitor and turn it into a PC using the proprietary cable — no docks like Samsung’s DeX.

The Huawei Mate 10 comes with 4GB of RAM clubbed with 64GB of internal storage. The Mate 10 Pro, on the other hand, will be available in two variants — 6GB RAM along with 64GB or 128GB storage.  The Mate 10 Pro loses out on a 256GB expandable storage, which the standard Mate 10 gets. Both the smartphones feature a fingerprint scanner as well.

On the photography front, the Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro sport a dual rear camera setup — 20MP monochrome sensor and 12MP RGB sensor.  There’s an 8MP front shooter for selfies. The smartphones run Huawei’s EMUI 8.0, a custom user interface based on Android 8.0, Oreo. Lastly, the two smartphones will be fuelled by a 4000mAh battery. Speaking of durability, the Mate 10 Pro has IP67 dust and water resistance (up to 1m for 30m), a first for the series. Huawei has omitted the 3.5mm audio jack, which could be a disappointment for those with expensive audio gear with the 3.5mm port.

Alongside the standard variants, the Mate 10 also comes in a Porsche Design Edition, which builds on the solid hardware of the regular models with an even more premium exterior and exclusive Porsche badging.

The Huawei Mate 10 will be retailed at a price tag of EUR 699 (approximately Rs 53,400) and is slated to go on sale from November in several countries including Australia, Singapore, Spain, and Mexico. The Huawei Mate 10 Pro is priced at EUR 699 (approximately Rs 61,000).
