Samsung Galaxy S9 specs leak ahead of its launch

As we all know nothing regarding tech can be hidden anymore on the internet, there have been numerous leaks about specs and colours of the Samsung’s Galaxy S9s already. Ahead of its launch at MWC next week, a Reddit user managed to get his hands on the Galaxy S9 and shared some interesting features about the upcoming flagship from Samsung. This most anticipated flagship is soon to be launched at MWC 2018 which starts from 26th of this month.

An anonymous Reddit user reportedly claims that he has spent 20 minutes of hands-on time with a Galaxy S9. He then posted an ‘Ask Me Anything (AMA)’ session in which he took questions and answered them over the course of more than 12 hours. He revealed quite some new features, which we weren’t aware of from the previous leaks.

Firstly, the user confirms that this new Galaxy S9 looks and feels similar to previous years’ flagships, the S8s, “I was really so [surprised] at the fact that it looked like I was holding an s8. It’s really that similar,” said Reddit user. The fingerprint scanner is moved beneath the camera at the rear on the new models. The larger Galaxy S9 Plus features dual cameras at the rear, which we already know.

Secondly, the user says there’s been a decent improvement in the audio quality compared to Galaxy S8. There were rumours that the Galaxy S9 might have stereo speakers similar to Apple’s iPhones’. He says ‘the sound is a “major improvement” compared to Samsung’s current Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+.’

According to the Redditor, Samsung might rip off Apple iPhone X’s Animoji feature, called 3D Emoji feature this can be similar to the Animojis with some little tweaks. The user says, “they’re not a direct ripoff of animoji, more like a mix between animoji and bitmoji,” he wrote in a reply on Reddit. “You create an avatar, and can control its facial features, similar to an animoji.”

The Redditor also had mentioned about the camera in AMA session, he says, there’s been a dramatically improved photo quality as well as 4K video support at higher frame rates. He did note that 1,000 fps slow-motion is not supported, though.

The Samsung Galaxy S9 is rumoured to be powered by their latest Exynos 9000 series chipset, up to 6GB of RAM, 512GB of onboard storage and a slightly bigger battery than the previous generation Galaxy S8. There were also leaks about the colour variants of this flagship, these phones to come in new Lilac Purple and Coral Blue colour variants.
