Xiaomi Mi 9 confirmed for February 24th at MWC 2019
The Xiaomi Mi 9 will sport a premium AMOLED screen from Samsung with 1080p FHD+, 103.8% NTSC wide color gamut.
Xiaomi has confirmed the launch of its flagship Mi 9 smartphone for February 24th. The product’s photos and specifications are detailed on their blog, which shows that the flagship will sport a 90.7% screen-to-body ratio and will sport a premium AMOLED screen from Samsung with 1080p FHD+, 103.8% NTSC wide color gamut. The display will also be equipped with Corning’s Gorilla Glass 6 as a protection layer.
As shown in the photos, the Mi 9 will sport a tiny notch in the centre that hosts a 20MP micro selfie camera with an in-screen ambient light sensor and ultrasonic proximity sensor. The display will also sport an in-screen fingerprint sensor. The 5th generation of FOD (fingerprint on display), has improved the unlock speed by 25%.
Apart from boasting about the display, Xiaomi also states that the panel will feature screen dimming optimizations with gamma optimization tech and Reading More 2.0 that sports colour levels that is increased from 32 to 256 levels for a smoother brightness transition. The eye protection technology has also received a certificate from VED.
Also added is a Sunlight Mode 2.0 technology which improves colours and contrast to optimize the display when used outdoors. Xiaomi claims that the brightness levels are increased by up to 39% as compared to standard mode.
As for the cameras, the Xiaomi Mi 9 will sport a triple camera layout on the rear and will comprise of a 48MP Sony IMX586 sensor, a 16MP 117-degree sensor and a 12MP sensor with 2X optical zoom. The 48MP photo is obtained using a 12MP sensor and a quad pixel technology using a ½-inch large sensor.
Xiaomi claims that the cameras are able to procure images from as close as 4cm. This is similar to what we have seen on Huawei’s Mate 20 Pro. Also assisting the cameras is a laser focusing system for quicker focusing on the subjects. As for the internal hardware, the Xiaomi flagship Mi 9 will be based on a 5G-ready Snapdragon 855 SoC with 6GB of RAM. The phone will run off Android 9.0 and will be fuelled by a 3500mAh battery. The phone will be available in three colours.
Xiaomi will be announcing the Mi 9 flagship at an event in Barcelona on February 24 at the MWC 2019.
