The secondary E-ink display to the left displays time, date and day information.

These days, a smartphone is recognised not by the practicality it offers but by the features that make it unique. Look Samsung’s Galaxy S8 with its unique display and the HTC U11 with its squeezable ‘Edge Sense’ feature. So, Meizu wants to grab the world’s attention with its next smartphone featuring a secondary E-ink display, called the Meizu PRO 7.

While this isn’t the first of its kind device as we have experienced several generations of the Russian made YotaPhone, it is surely a breath of fresh air in the affordable flagship category. A teaser on social media shows the smartphone with its quarter-sized E-ink display to the left. The display is showing time, date and day information. We suspect that Meizu could be using this display for displaying notifications.

Rumours related to the device suggest that the smartphone will be powered by a 5.2-inch Full-HD primary display along with the obvious secondary E-ink display. The dual SIM smartphone will be using a MediaTek MT6799 Helio X30 deca-core 2.5GHz processor and will come in two variants – one with 64GB internal storage and 4GB RAM and the other with 128GB internal storage and 6GB RAM. The device is also expected to feature a 12 MP 4K dual camera on the back, and a secondary 16 MP camera in front.

The company has also confirmed the launch date of the device, which is 26th of this July. Stay tuned for further information regarding the device.
