Samsung to trade Exynos SoCs to its contenders

Samsung usually uses its Exynos processor for the international models of its high-end flagship smartphones. However, the Korean tech giant is reportedly in talks with other various smartphone manufacturers including China’s ZTE to supply its Exynos processor chips. This means the company might be targeting its contenders which are using Qualcomm-based processors.

Samsung processors are rarely seen on other mobile platforms, the only smartphone maker which uses this Exynos processor is Meizu, which recently used the chipset (Exynos 8895 Octa) in its Meizu 15 Plus device.

Inyup Kang, head of Samsung’s logic chip developer System LSI, said the company is “talking to all OEMs” and also confirmed that new clients can be unveiled as early as the first half of 2019, according to a report by GSMArena.

This Samsung's talking to all OEMs, however, comes right after ZTE banned from buying Qualcomm products, since it had violated trade embargos and imported Snapdragon-powered devices in Iran and North Korea.

Samsung appears to be growing its business by selling its chips for third-party OEMs. Nonetheless, the company is way behind in making its own chipsets when compared to Qualcomm and Apple. The report also suggested that Samsung might start introducing 5G chipsets to the automobile industry, while Audi appears to be its primary client.
