Why Redmi K20 and K20 Pro are expensive?
The price tag on the hyped flagship killers left many users disappointed as they expected them to be priced somewhere around Rs 20,000.
After the launch of Redmi K20 and K20 Pro, tons of users took to social media grumbling about the high prices tagged on the new smartphones. In reply to this, Xiaomi India Managing Director Manu Kumar Jain on Friday wrote an open letter describing why these devices are expensive.
Users on Twitter criticised that Redmi K20's price in India has been set higher than in China. Many users even expressed that, they find the Realme X to be a better option in this range and bracket.
As per Jain, the specs on both the devices are much faster than those on the previous generation phones. Adding more, the letter explained how Redmi K20 Pro is 45 per cent faster while Redmi K20 is 40 per cent faster. Both the phones have been equipped of the latest processors available – Redmi K20 Pro with a Snapdragon 855 and the K20 with a Snapdragon 730, making them faster than their predecessors.
Jain wrote, “We want to tell you that we worked day and night to ensure Redmi K20 series provided a true flagship experience to all our consumers without compromises.”
Explaining the high-pricing, it stated, “Please note, latest technology gets cheaper with time; we could have used older generation processor to save money or we could have waited for 6 months for component costs to go down, and hence further reduce the price of Redmi K20. But that would’ve gone against our philosophy of bringing the latest innovation to you.”
Further adding, “We are proud to manufacture these flagship devices in India, with nearly 65 per cent of the value of the smartphone being locally sourced. The remaining 35 per cent has to be imported leading to higher taxes for complicated components. This leads to a small pricing difference; there is only a 3 per cent difference between the top-end variant (8GB+256GB) pricing between India and China.”
Commonly available on phones ranging up to Rs 40,000 to 50,000. The newly launched Redmi devices have AMOLED display with hardware DC dimming, high-resolution DAC, 48MP triple AI camera, 20MP pop-up camera, curved Gorilla Glass 5 on both sides, 7th generation in-display fingerprint scanner and not to forget the latest processors.
The Redmi K20 Pro is priced at Rs 27,999 for the 6GB + 128GB variant and Rs 30,999 for the 8GB + 256GB variant. The Redmi K20 is priced at Rs 21,999 for the 6GB + 64GB variant and Rs 23,999 for the 8GB + 128GB variant.
