iPhone XR could be facing a bumpy start
The soon-to-be-released LCD iPhone has an unforeseen problem which is worrying for Apple.
Way back at the iPhone event held in September, the iPhone XR stole the spotlight away from the XS and XS Max as it was firstly priced attractively and had the best features of the OLED handsets. The budget-friendly model has been tipped to do the best amongst the recently announced iPhones with a lot of analysts expecting its sales to surpass those of the iPhone XS and XS Max.
However, as per a recent report by Forbes, a new worrying revelation has been made which suggest that it is one of the first new iPhones in history to not sell out within hours of going up for pre-order.
The report notes that the case is all the more worrying as three days after going on pre-order, the iPhone XR which in India has a starting price of Rs 76,900 is available in every colour and configuration on Apple.com with the launch day shipping on October 26. But this raises an obvious question — has Apple managed to raise its inventory sufficiently to meet and exceed demand? It is quite honestly hard to believe so.
The reason for the disbelief is that in its 11-year history of the iPhone, ship dates of the handset slips to weeks within minutes and as is the case with the iPhone XR, the brand is launching it a month later than the XS and XS Max as there were quite a few reports citing delays in production. So, for Apple to resolve this issue in such a short span of time and exceed demand is pretty hard to believe.
The report notes that the hope is for the XS and XS Max is to succeed with various sources claiming that the handsets have sold more than the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus during the same launch period last year. Also, sales of the iPhone 6S and 7 are also believed to be higher. So, with sales of the iPhone XR projected to be the highest this year, something surely isn’t going right for Apple this year round.
So, as of now, let’s expect the worst and hope for the best for Apple.
