When Apple unveiled the three iPhones this September, the iPhone X hogged the most limelight with a new iPhone design. However, the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus were taken to be refreshed versions of the old iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. However, the new ‘old’ iPhone duo has reclaimed their claim to fame by being the best camera smartphones in the world.

DxOMark, the world-renowned photography testing standard, has found both the new iPhones to be the best smartphones for shooting pictures. The iPhone 8 has scored a DxOMark of 92, which is two points higher than that of the HTC U11 and the Google Pixel, both of even which we feel to be some of the best camera sensors for smartphones out there in the market.

As if this wasn’t enough, the bigger iPhone 8 Plus scored a surprising DxOMark of 94, beating the smaller iPhone 8. The iPhone 8 Plus has a dual camera system like last year’s iPhone 7 Plus but with major tweaks to the inside. For your knowledge, the iPhone 7 Plus scored 88 last year before beaten by the Google Pixel.

So there you have it — the best camera smartphone in the world right now is the iPhone 8 Plus until —

  1. The iPhone X takes forward the baton to a slightly higher score.
  2. Google’s Pixel 2 comes with a better camera and beats the new iPhones.
