Google's Pixel 2 XL reportedly has screen burn-in' issues
Some users have reported picture retention on their Pixel 2 XL units within a week of usage.
The Google Pixel 2 is the Search giant’s second attempt at making a premium flagship smartphone and Google has gone to great depths in making the new models more appealing in a different way —focus on AI. However, it hasn’t been even a month and the Pixel 2 has started suffering from several issues, particularly the Pixel 2 XL.
A report from The Verge states that some review units of the Pixel 2 XL handed over to journalists have started suffering from screen burn-in. Faint yet visible lines from the navigation bar are visible on when the display is showing something else on the bottom of the screen. This comes as a worrying issue from a smartphone that hasn’t seen the world for a substantial amount of time.
Screen burn-in is a common issue on OLED panels and every phone with such a display is bound to see screen burn-in at some point in its life. There’s no official confirmation as to whether this issue is a screen burn-in issue or a ‘ghosting’ issue. Google’s official statement on the following issue is rather vague: “The Pixel 2 XL screen has been designed with an advanced POLED technology, including QHD+ resolution, wide colour gamut, and high contrast ratio for natural and beautiful colours and renderings. We put all of our products through extensive quality testing before launch and in the manufacturing of every unit. We are actively investigating this report.”
Most people who have owned an LG smartphone or an LG-made Google smartphone have often experienced several quality issues and it seems that LG-made Pixel 2 XL suffers from the same fate. There hasn’t been any complaint from the smaller HTC-made Pixel 2 so far. We hope that Google is able to solve this issue before the Pixel 2 XL starts rolling to users across the world.
