The leaked renders of the iPhone 12 are a call-back to the iPhone 4.

The Apple iPhone 11 Pro range and the iPhone 11 are by far the best iPhones to have ever launched. In our review, we opined that no other smartphones even come close to it. On the face, though it looks like a minor update, at least design-wise, Apple is actually laying the groundwork for future products and it all starts with the 2019 model. And for those who have recently purchased the latest model, here is a sincere warning, look away now as next year’s iPhones are going to come packing some serious advancements that will make any 2019 handset look prehistoric.

As per a tip from reputed leakster Ben Geskin, Apple is believed to be testing several Face ID prototypes that would allow a smaller notch being used on the 2020 iPhones. Previously, Geskin stated that Apple has at least one prototype in the works which feature a 6.7-inch display and no notch. It comes loaded with the TrueDepth sensor for Face ID in the bezel above he display; which is something we are yet to find on any current-generation model. Noted Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo had previously claimed that Apple will be introducing a new form factor which could have a slimmer bezel.

Now, Geskin claims that plenty of varied Face ID models are currently being tested and the prototypes are making use of new optics. He states that some are smaller in width while others are narrower to fit the sensors in the top bezel.

But that’s not all, he also goes on to add that Apple will be revising the design of the antennas to support 5G. The new antennas are said to be wider and could be made of premium materials such as glass, ceramic or sapphire.

And what’s even more surprising is that Geskin claims that Apple will ditch the Lightning port. While this has been long-rumoured; Apple won’t be switching to USB Type-C. Instead, the Cupertino-based brand will opt for an entirely wireless charging solution.

For what it’s worth, Geskin has been pretty accurate in the past and his predictions have included details about the iPhone X prior to it being announced. However, his track record isn’t always perfect and this rumour should be taken with a grain of salt for now.
