At an event in Delhi, Xiaomi took the wraps off the Redmi Y3, the successor to the popular Redmi Y2. This handset boasts some impressive specifications; however, its highlighted feature is the 32MP selfie camera. The Redmi Y3 comes with a starting price of Rs 9,999 and the brand has introduced two variants in India — 3GB/32GB and 4GB/64GB. The top-end handset is priced at Rs 11,999. Like all Redmi Y series handsets, this model is also selfie-focused with the brand adding a 32MP camera up front.

Featuring the brand’s Dot Notch display, the Redmi Y3 is similar to the Note 7 series that was announced earlier this year. In comparison to last year’s model, the Redmi Y3 has pretty slim bezels making it appear a lot more expensive than it actually is. Xiaomi has added a gradient design on the rear which the brand has dubbed Aura Prism. The Redmi Y3 comes with Face Unlock as well as a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner that’s placed below the dual cameras.

The selfie-cam features EIS support and can shoot FHD videos at 30fps. The Redmi Y3 also boasts some added camera features such as Palm shutter, Auto HDR, and Xiaomi’s portrait mode. Like the Redmi Note 7 Pro, you can access the cameras 32MP sensor only by shooting in Pro mode. The rear camera module comprises of a 12MP sensor with an F/2.2 aperture and a secondary 2MP shooter that’s used for depth sensing.

The Redmi Y3 features a 6.26-inch Dot Notch display and a 19:9 aspect ratio. The HD+ display features a resolution of 720 x 1520 pixels. Xiaomi has added Gorilla Glass 5 protection on the front, but the rear doesn’t have this feature as its made of polycarbonate. Under the hood, the Redmi Y3 comes with a Snapdragon 632 chipset that’s paired with 3GB or 4GB of RAM and 32GB or 64GB of storage respectively. The handset’s storage can be expanded a further 512GB.

Like most Redmi phones announced this year, the Y3 also features Android 9 with MIUI 10. The handset is kept juiced up by a 4000mAh battery. The handset is available in three colour options — Prism Black, Bold Red and Elegant Blue and it will go on sale on April 30. Alongside the Redmi Y3, the Redmi 7 was also announced and the Mi LED Smart Bulb that’s crowdsourced.
