Here's how the Vivo Nex camera pops up

Vivo has added some amazing tech to enable the camera to pop-up.

Update: 2018-06-26 09:12 GMT
The Vivo NEX includes an all-screen display.

Earlier this month, Vivo announced the Nex S and Nex A handsets and they came crazy all-screen display, offering 91.24 per cent screen-to-body ratio, in-screen fingerprint reader, industry-leading Snapdragon 845 and a selfie camera that pops up.

Nowadays, smartphones rarely ever use mechanical parts like the one featured on the pop-up selfies camera of these devices. So if you are itching to know how this was made possible, MyFixGuide has torn down a Vivo NEX unit and revealed how this incredible feature takes place.

Explaining the feature, they state that the spring design functions as a cushion to outer forces on the camera. In fact, it is the spiral stepper motor on the right that propels the whole progress to work. The cost of this module is high. Although the front camera is not motivated by the motor, it can freely still slide upwards or downwards.

All in all, this is a pretty incredible achievement by Vivo to make this possible.

For those not in the know, the NEX smartphones feature a 6.59-inch AMOLED display panel (2316 x 1080 pixels) with an aspect ratio of 19.3:9. The dual rear camera system consists of a 12MP sensor and a 5MP sensor. Upfront, the handsets sport an 8MP selfie camera. The devices are backed by a 4000mAh battery and run on Android 8.1 Oreo layered by FunTouch OS 4.0 along with AI enhancements.
