Leaked MIUI 9 Android 8.1 Oreo build for Redmi Note 5 Pro
MIUI 9's global beta ROM based on Android Oreo 8.1 has been leaked and can be flashed on Indian units.
When Xiaomi launched the Redmi Note 5 Pro last month, the smartphone promised a well-rounded package at an affordable price. However, the only glaring issue with the Note 5 Pro was the absence of Android 8.1 Oreo-based MIUI 9, which is a bummer considering the competition has already moved to Android Oreo-based ROMs. The Note 5 Pro debuted with Android 8.1 ROM in China, which indicates that Xiaomi had the Oreo ROM ready for use in the device. While the Indian units haven’t been promised a tentative update date, the Note 5 Pro can enjoy Oreo’s goodness — thanks to the community of tipsters and Android-tweaking fans.
A group of XDA forum members going by the name of FunkyHuawei.club has been tracking various developer builds of Oreo-based MIUI 9 ROMs for Mi MIX 2 and Redmi Note 5 Pro. Xiaomi appears to presently test Oreo-based MIUI 9 for the units running on the global variants of MIUI. FunkyHuawei.club presently has got hold of five beta build of MIUI 9 based on Android 8.1, which can be downloaded and used on the Indian Redmi Note 5 Pro.
However, before you get tempted and prepare your phone for the new version of Android, do note that you will have to flash the Rom o your device. Therefore, this could result in loss of your existing data. Also, if you don’t have a thorough knowledge of flashing custom ROMs on a smartphone, we suggest you stay away and wait for an official OTA rollout, otherwise you might end up bricking your device. The Oreo-based MIUI 9 ROM hasn’t been reported to feature any major bugs as of now, but expect some new ones to creep up as it’s in Beta stage.
