Several reports earlier this month have started indicating that Galaxy S8’s much-boast about security feature, the iris scanner is vulnerable to easy-hack. These news headlines started surfacing online after a German hacking group managed to fool the security feature into unlocking the device through the simple use of a photo and contact lens. Samsung hadn’t responded immediately.

The South-Korean tech giant has finally made an official comment regarding the issue. A Samsung spokesperson said that the technique used in the video released by the hackers is very unrealistic. In other words, Samsung thinks that no one in reality would actually think of carrying out this method.

A report by The Korea Herald quoted a Samsung spokesperson as saying, “You need a camera that can capture infrared light (used in the video), which is no longer available in the market. Also, you need to take a photo of the owner's iris and steal his smartphone. It is difficult for the whole scenario to happen in reality,” he said.
