Just rewind your clocks a few weeks and you’ll remember that the community was up in arms against Facebook’s Internet.org. Coming to the present day, it seems Microsoft is making moves to literally try and monopolise the entire gaming ecosystem on the PC with their Windows 10 Universal Windows Platform (UWP), and as gamers we must stand united against it.

Microsoft has gone and made an ecosystem within the Windows 10 ecosystem and that is the Universal Windows Platform. While in theory a universal platform that integrates all your Windows 10 devices sounds amazing, the fact that it’s a closed ecosystem and forces developers to only sell their apps through it is absolutely abhorrent.

They take a whopping 30 per cent of the revenue and force developers and publishers to only sell via the store and to prohibit them from directly engaging with the consumer. Moreover, it is this interaction between the community and the developers that has led to the thriving and lively ecosystem that the PC gaming market has become today.

Tim Sweeney, the cofounder of Epic Games has also come out very strongly against Microsoft’s attempt to monopolize PC gaming, and you as a gamer, ought to raise your voice as well. While PC gamers were definitely looking forward to Xbox exclusives coming Windows, I doubt anyone will be happy with this, even if it does mean all future Forza Games, Halo Wars, Quantum break and the likes make their way to PC. PC gamers need to start voting with their wallets.
