Madeleine Martin has won rave reviews and fans all over the globe for her portrayal of Rebecca “Becca” Moody in the hit comedy-drama Californication. Her acting career kicked off at the age of seven, with the Broadway National Tour’s Sound of Music, and there has been no looking back ever since. In an interview with us, Madeline talks about working with her Californication co-star David Duchovny and more.
You began your career at the age of seven. How did you get into acting My brothers and I all loved The Sound Of Music musical, and when the Broadway musical with Richard Chamberlain was looking for a Gretl, I auditioned and got the part. I wish my brothers could have been cast with me. What has the experience of playing Hank Moody’s daughter Becca in Californication been like When I think of what being a teenager was like I think of Californication because I was on the show through all my teenage years. I feel fortunate to have been able to attend a prom during the years the show filmed, since schooling and socialisation were restricted by the schedule of the show. I had my first kiss on the show, and I learned to play guitar. David (Duchovny) was the best acting coach I could have had, because just watching him I learned how to relax in any role. Natascha, who played my mother, will always be my ideal of womanhood. Any other shows or movie projects that you are associated with currently I have just completed two seasons of Netflix’s Hemlock Grove. I play the character Shelley, who is influenced by Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. She’s a strong and tortured young woman whom I felt ready to portray after all of Becca’s travails. How does it feel to have got so much appreciation from fans for your role in Californication I am grateful to the talented writers on Californication and Hemlock Grove. They often seemed to write for the characters they saw emerging from my portrayals. It’s a gift that they allowed me to influence the characterisations. The success of these shows is definitely the result of team effort.
Californication airs Monday-Friday 11 pm on AXN
