Didn’t expect such huge response: Mouni Roy

The recently launched show Naagin, themed on the supernatural, seems to be making the right moves as far as TRP ratings go. The show that stars Mouni Roy, Adaa Khan and Arjun Bijlani, has been ruling the charts right from the start. In fact, it has left several other popular shows behind.
Mouni, who plays the central character on the show, is expectedly ecstatic. “We weren’t expecting such a huge response. And thanks to that, maybe our show will return with another season. I think what works for the show is its supernatural theme. That breaks the saas-bahu clutter. There is definitely an audience for the supernatural, which is why the Twilight series is such a hit. But the concept had not been explored on Indian TV, until now.”
Speaking about her character Shivanya that has already become a fan favourite, she says, “My character by no means is a regular girl. So I had no reference points. But just because it is supernatural, that doesn’t mean one needs to go overboard. So I have tried to deliver a restrained performance. The idea is to keep her real and relatable at least in some aspects.”
What fans also love is her onscreen chemistry with Arjun Bijlani. About that Mouni says, “Although it’s our first show together, Arjun and I have known each other a long time. When you work with someone new, it takes some time to understand their style of working and so it takes some time to get along. Since we were friends already, it made things easier for both of us.”
