After essaying the larger-than-life character of Ammaji, actress Meghna Malik decided to take things easy. She took her time to sign Dahleez, which is being touted as a promising new show. Meghana reveals that it was an ankle injury that kept her from signing many plum assignments. “I broke my ankle and so for last six-seven months, I couldn’t have done much. I had to let go many interesting offers because I was advised to rest. It was a low phase for me, the kinds where you put on weight because you are not able to walk or exercise. I tried to learn swimming through YouTube lessons and gradually started going to the gym because I wanted to strengthen my ankle and prepare to get back to work. I also took to cooking in a big way. My concentration was back on, my ankle healed and I was ready to go back to the gruelling shifts,” says the actress.
In Dahleez, Meghna plays a maverick character that’s strong and independent, aspects strikingly similar to her previous character Ammaji. We ask her about her leanings towards such characters and she says, “It is so difficult to find a different story on television these days. I try to bring out different aspects of a character. I know what completes a woman so I love portraying characters that are strong.” She adds, “I am playing a lawyer in Dahleez. Even though she is similar to Ammaji, she is very progressive in her thinking. She is an unconventional television mother, she’s best friends with her husband which is a rare thing to see on television. And she does not dress like a Christmas tree”.
Recently the actress was in news for giving a tough time to the producers of Dahleez. Broach the topic and she starts laughing hysterically. “I have been shooting here non-stop for eight months now. So I really don’t know who is spreading these malicious stories. I am still here and the shoot is on. That should put the nasty rumours to rest.”
