Actress Rasika Dugal, who has been paired opposite Nawazuddin Siddiqui in Nandita Das’ film, Manto, is all set to host a television show, based on mythological stories. The show, titled Devlok, will see the actress discussing interesting stories from epics like the Mahabharata and the Ramayana, alongside her co-host, mythologist Devdutt Pattanaik. Considering the fact that Rasika has been part of the controversial play The Vagina Monologues, her foray into the mythological zone is rather unusual, she admits. Says Rasika, “I have always been interested in storytelling. Which stories are told, how they are told and how they are passed on—I find figuring out all this intriguing. What is beautiful about stories is that they are — perhaps accidentally — infused with the morality, the politics, the imagination or maybe even the aspirations of the person telling it and the person listening to it. So in that sense, no two stories can be the same. Indian mythology has a plethora of stories; every story is layered with each small detail leading you to another story and you feel like you are caught in this chakravyuh of stories and you don’t want to look for a way out. So, I am really glad to be part of this show.”
