Trump indicates Brexit leader Nigel Farage as next UK ambassador to US
Farage was one of the few world leaders to have met and endorsed Donald Trump during the US presidential elections.
Washington: In an unprecedented move, President-elect Donald Trump on Tuesday indicated that he would like to have Nigel Farage, leader of the Brexit movement, as the next British Ambassador to the United States.
"Many people would like to see @Nigel_Farage represent Great Britain as their Ambassador to the United States. He would do a great job!" Trump said in a tweet on Tuesday.
It is one of the rarest occasions that a foreign leader has indicated his favourite picture of a diplomatic envoy from other country.
Trump and Nigel Farage, the leader of the UK Independence Party, share a very good relationship.
Farage was one of the few world leaders to have met and endorsed Donald Trump during the US presidential elections. He had also helped Mr Trump prepare for debate.
He had said that he is not for an ambassadorial posting. The British leader is likely to attend the January 20 inauguration of Donald Trump as the 45th President of the United States.
