Nawaz Sharif destroying judiciary, says Imran Khan
There are criminal cases and Sharif is seeking to build up pressure against NAB and the accountability court, he said.
Islamabad: Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan on Sunday said that ousted Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was attempting to destroy the judicial system.
In a statement, the PTI chief expressed concerns over the ex-premier’s plan to travel to Lahore in a cavalcade on GT Road and said that the plan was a deliberate attempt to continue undermining the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
He added that Panama case verdict was a unanimous decision by five SC judges after a thorough investigation. “By challenging the SC, Nawaz Sharif is attempting to destroy the judicial system of the country. Having become redundant politically after his disqualification, and knowing he can now never become PM, Nawaz Sharif is prepared to destroy the whole democratic system,” Mr Khan said. The PTI chairman asserted that Mr Sharif’s second purpose in driving to Lahore via the GT Road was to pressurise National Accountability Bureau (NAB) — which is set to open cases against the former premier.
“There are criminal cases and Sharif is seeking to build up pressure against NAB and the accountability court,” he said. “While PTI called off its protests once SC took up the rigging and corruption cases, Nawaz Sharif has chosen to take to streets after being found guilty and having been disqualified,” he added. Mr Khan alleged Mr Sharif was continuing to use state resources to destroy the judiciary and thereby the democratic system.
