Tokyo: Media reports say Japanese police have arrested an American man on suspicion of fatally stabbing his Japanese wife at a court where they were to settle a divorce.

NHK public television says the man, identified only as a 32-year-old US citizen, stabbed the woman in the neck on Wednesday near a security check at the entrance to Tokyo Family Court. It says the man fled but was caught in a nearby park.

The 31-year-old victim was rushed to a hospital but later died. NHK says the suspect had three knives and police believe he ambushed the woman when she walked into the building.

No further details were immediately available. Police refused to confirm the reports.
