Beijing: A high-ranking woman official of China's ruling-Communist Party was n Monday sentenced to 13 years in prison and fined nearly USD 2,90,000 for taking bribes.

Lyu Xiwen, former deputy chief of the Communist Party in Beijing was sentenced to 13 years in prison by the court for taking advantage of various official posts from 2001 to 2015.

Lyu was also fined two million yuan (USD 2,90,000) and her illegal gains shall be recovered and turned over to the state treasury.

According to the court, Lyu accepted bribes worth 18.79 million yuan.

The Intermediate People's Court of Jilin City in northeast China's Jilin Province said it showed leniency as Lyu confessed to her crimes, expressed remorse and voluntarily= returned illegal gains.

Lyu accepted the verdict, according to the court, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.
