After Bhansali drops Khalnayak remake, Ghai finds more takers

Lately, a lot of talk has been going around about Sanjay Leela Bhansali acquiring the remake rights of Subhash Ghai’s Khalnayak.

Lately, a lot of talk has been going around about Sanjay Leela Bhansali acquiring the remake rights of Subhash Ghai’s Khalnayak. We now hear that Bhansali is not doing the film and has dropped the idea completely. Says a source close to the director, “Sanjay met Subhashji informally many months ago. They chatted about many things, one of them being the remake of Khalnayak, although it wasn’t formally discussed. There was no mention of any transaction of any kind. At this juncture Sanjay sees no possibility of doing anything to Khalnayak that Subhashji has not already done.”

Earlier this week, Subhash Ghai said to PTI, “There was a talk for sure when he (Sanjay Leela Bhansali) had come for lunch at my home and he wanted the rights of Khalnayak. Suddenly this has become the hottest news being talked about in the market today. And we are getting offers from few more producers.”

Incidentally, two remakes of Subhash Ghai’s films—Karz and Hero have proved disastrous. We’d have to wait to see how the next one turns out.
