AR Rahman composes for two sporting legends
The musical genius will lend music for biopics of sporting legends — Sachin Tendulkar and Pele
AR Rahman, who was admittedly never into sports as a kid, is composing music for biopics on two of the biggest sports stars — Indian cricket ‘god’ Sachin Tendulkar and Brazilian football legend, Pele. Both the films are slated for a release this year and the trailer of both these films are out.
Says a source, “When Pele came to India last year, Rahman chanced upon a meeting with him in Kolkata. He was very thrilled to meet the sports star and talk to him about this project. He was happy that directors Jeff and Michael gave him an opportunity to compose music for this film. He also went to America to meet the directors and understand the film better. It was a dream come true for him to be able to compose music for a film on Pele.”
Closer home, Sachin’s biopic will have Rahman’s music as well — something director James Erskine was very clear about. Adds a source, “He has divided his time equally for both the films, working around both the directors’ specifications.”
Pele biopic is releasing on May 13 while Sachin — A billion dreams is yet to announce its release date.
