Controversies are unnecessary: Shreya Ghoshal
Bajirao Mastani’s Pinga has created much controversy for its dance steps as much as its costumes and the equation between the characters that Deepika and Priyanka portray. Shreya Ghoshal, who has sung the song can’t quite wrap her head around the hullabaloo. “For me, the movie is special because it’s not the regular ‘formula music’ of today. I had Sanjayji (Bhansali) sitting on the console and giving me references of the best of legends—few people get this kind of guidance. I was like a student, learning from him. As for the controversy, these issues get blown out of proportion. When a big movie releases, there are sparks around it. The real story of Bajirao Mastani has not been very well documented and hence the versions change from time to time. The way the movie has been made, it glorifies the richness of Maratha royalty and more people will get to know of their greatness. The controversies are unnecessary.”
On the personal front, Shreya got married early this year in a hush hush ceremony. “I’ve always been a private person. I didn’t want to drop a hint about the wedding because the media would have put it all over. I wanted a simple wedding with family and childhood friends in attendance. Plus, the wedding was decided at the last minute. I married my best friend. We’ve known each other for more than 10 years, so life hasn’t changed much after marriage. He is not connected to my industry; he’s a techie and an academician but he is fond of music and has a good understanding of it. Life is perfect now.”
On the work front, things have never looked brighter either. “I believe that every song needs a certain voice and if I suit the song, people will approach me. I have never told anyone to compose a song for me. But yes, I will put in extra effort to perfect a song. When I take up work, I will put in the effort of practicing at home, rather than stepping out to party.”
