Director mortaged his house to work with Naseeruddin Shah
Director Manish Srivastav who has made the film Charlie Kay Chakkar Mein starring Naseeruddin Shah had to mortgage his house to make it happen. Manish had directed a film in 2007, titled Go, which had bombed at the box office. He had wanted to do a film with Naseeruddin for the longest time but no producer was willing to invest.
“The film I made in 2007 was a huge flop. The projects that were lined up after that never took off either. I had this script and I was very much convinced about it but there were no producers. So I knew if I had to make this film I would have to arrange for the funds. I mortgaged my house I was staying in at that time and got around Rs 30 lakhs to make the film. I couldn’t afford to pay the actors. We used the money to take care of the production costs until Karan Arora came onboard as producer.”
It was a huge gamble. “I had to take the chance,” Manish says. “Now I have paid the money and the house is not on mortgage anymore. I was just planning to make a film and four to five years just went by. Naseer sir readily agreed and I am very thankful to everyone who supported me for this film.”
