I’ve had a casting problem in every film: Farah Khan
Farah Khan is back after a yearlong break post-Happy New Year, and is hard at work on her next. In her own words, it’s a “much smaller film” than her previous films. “It’s very different from anything I’ve done it’s a film about two girls. Shah Rukh (Khan) is producing it, and we’re both very gung-ho about it,” the director revealed in a chat with us.
Farah admitted that helming a multi-starrer is tough. “While shooting for Happy New Year, I swear I had thought that my next film will be with two people (With an ensemble star cast), it is like, ‘Usko bulao. Arrey, woh chala gaya!’ It looks easy on screen, but when you see the making of it, you’ll understand how big and crazy it is,” she said.
Her new film is “smaller” not only in terms of cast, but also in its treatment. Farah explained, “It doesn’t have these big item songs, it’s Allahabad-based. It’s real, not larger than life. It doesn’t have the trappings of a commercial film. It’s fun but it also says something. It has a message — but not in a boring, arty or preachy way.”
As for who will feature in the film, Farah told us she has certain names in mind — although she isn’t saying them out loud just yet! “Let’s see whoever fits the role and has dates,” she said. “But I always believe that whoever is good for the movie will come to it. I have had a casting problem in every movie of mine, barring Shah Rukh. He is the easiest to cast and then everything else is an issue. Shah Rukh is not acting in this film however, it’s the girls who are the ‘heroes’.”
Farah is also keeping quiet about the genre of her film, and only said that she intends to start work on it within the next 6-7 months.
