Kabir Khan to make his first sports film
India’s big victory at the 1983 World Cup against West Indies is going to make its way to the big screen. The film, which follows cricket-themed movies like the biopic Azhar, and the upcoming film on Dhoni, is sure to bring back lot of memories. A few months back Vishnu Induri, founder of Celebrity Cricket League, got Phantom Productions on board for this film and even got cricketers who had played in the tournament to sign a contract for access to all the background information.
The world cup is not going to be the only focus of the film. A source revealed, “It is going to highlight what the country was going through when Kapil Dev lifted the cup. A lot of things changed when India lifted the cup.”
Now here’s the interesting development about the film. It was director Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan who initially wrote the film and was all set to direct it. However, by the time the movie will go on the floors, he will be busy shooting for the Sushant Singh Rajput starrer Chandamama Door Ke. While he will continue on the project in the capacity of a scriptwriter, he has opted out of directing the film.
A source revealed that it is Kabir Khan who will be stepping up to the plate as director in Chauhan’s place. “He will start this film next year after he is done with Tubelight. It will be up to him how he will bring this subject on screen. Regarding the other cast of the film, Kabir will take a call after he is done with Salman’s film,” said the source.
We are told that Arjun Kapoor has shown a keen interest in playing Kapil’s role. There may also be a female role in the movie, though it is likely to be a cameo. Kapil got married before the world cup so just like Bhag Milkha Bhag, there might be a small track for a woman in the film. “But that will again depend entirely on Kabir,” said a source.
