Karan Johar’s last full-fledged directorial was Student of the Year, which released in 2012, making Ae Dil Hai Mushkil his first release, after a gap of four years. Now, one might think that the upcoming release would’ve been a long time in the making, especially when it comes to preparing a watertight script that usually takes filmmakers months and even years to get right.

However, Karan didn’t have to work too hard on Ae Dil’s script, spending merely nine days to finish writing it, while he was in New York. “I just took nine days to write the film,” he revealed while addressing the media at the Jio MAMI Festival. “I was in New York, and while walking around the streets, I was thinking about the pain a person goes through when one-sided love happens. I’ve gone through the pain. The story of Ae Dil talks about this side of a love story.”

One-sided love is clearly the theme of the movie, with Ranbir Kapoor seen delivering lines in the movie’s trailer, which traces his relationship with Anushka Sharma. His moments with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and Anushka’s with Fawad Khan form the plot for the movie.

After much uncertainty about the release of the movie, Ae Dil is finally slated to release on October 28.
