Mani Ratnam spoils Shaad’s remake plans

After a string of flops including Jhoom Baraabar Jhoom and Kill Dil, filmmaker Shaad Ali has pinned all his hopes on his remake of Mani Ratnam’s last romantic outing O Kadhal Kanmani. The filmmaker had grand plans of bringing the Ashiqui couple Aditya Roy Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor on board for the remake. His mentor Mani however seems hellbent on retaining the original lead pair of Dulqeer Salman and Nithya Menon as he feels they are irreplaceable.

With this latest development spilling water on Shaad’s plans, the filmmaker has found himself in a rather difficult position of whether or not to ignore Mani’s wishes.

Says a source in the know, “Shaad can’t afford to disregard his mentor’s wishes. At the same time, with his career in the doldrums after two flops, he can’t risk working with two Tamil actors who are unknown to Bollywood audiences. He is caught in one big dilemma.”

Shaad has been associated with Mani Ratnam from the time the latter made Dil Se. He has assisted Mani in both Guru and Raavan, even while directing his own films. The source adds, “For Shaad to snub Mani would be a tall order.”
