‘Pink is not a film, it is like a movement’ – Amitabh Bachchan

‘Pink' that released on September 16, has been well received both by the audience and critics.

Mumbai: ‘Pink’, the Amitabh Bachchan-Taapsee Pannu starrer social drama that released on September 16, is not only garnering critical acclaim but has also earned acclamation from the audience.

The cast and crew of the movie held a press conference to celebrate the grand success of the film, Amitabh Bachchan, who played the role of a lawyer in the film, admits to being a little surprised about the overwhelming response. The megastar was quoted as saying,”This friday several incidents happened. People appreciated the film. I wasn't ready for such kind of reactions. When I heard the story, I said yes within few minutes. I was not in two minds to do this film.“

Bachchan feels that over time, the status of women in this society has also undergone drastic changes. He shares,” When I did KBC, I met several ladies on hot seat who used to tell their stories. In fact, in 70's also we used to fight for our heroines. The times have changed now. A lot of films are being made on women issues."

With zillions of awards and recognitions to his credit, Big B still takes every role as a challenge and believes in living up to the creative expectations of his director. The ‘Pink’ star adds, "There are difficulties in performing every role. The challenge is to do justice with the director’s vision. I still get nervous to act in front of the camera. I feel audience is very smart these days. We have showed a mirror to the society through this film. After Baghban released, a person from London called Ravi Chopra and said after seeing film I went to see my father after 25 years. I think Pink is not a film, it is like a movement."

The superstar also brushed away rumours of the open letter to his granddaughters being a promotional activity.

"When I wrote the letter to my grand daughters, a lot of people said that it was a deliberate promotional material for Pink but it was a medium to tell about the film without telling the story of the film since Pink is a thriller. Navya called me after reading the letter and said she will follow everything you have written. There have been several discussions about capital punishment in the country. It’s still a huge question mark," he asserted.

The Captain of the ship, director Anirudh Roy Chaudhary’s happiness knows no boundaries and is grateful to Shoojit Sircar for ‘holding his hand’.

"I am overwhelmed with the response of the film. I thank Shoojit to hold my hand and making this film with me and the entire team.”

Taapsee Pannu and Kirti Kulhari, who played female protagonists in the film thanked audience saying, "We are flooded with so much of love after the release of the film. It is overwhelming to see such reactions. People are calling us across the world."

Angad Bedi, who played a dark character in the movie, further added, "My character Rajveer Singh had a conservative upbringing. I was trapped in a situation. I dont think any mother on this earth will be proud to see her son doing this. Even in school, i didn't get sex education. It is a necessity in today's time."

Mamta, who played a role of a careless lady cop, too, is content with the viewers’ response to her now famous scene with Big B. She said, "I was very nervous while shooting the scene with Amitabh sir I never thought that my scene will turn out so hilarious and I could relate to it since I am from Delhi."

The conference witnessed the star cast of ‘Pink’ in great spirits and all of them expressed their gratitude towards the audience who made the film the success that it is today.
