The couturier is back with a new season of band, baaja, bride, and this time, there are surprises aplenty
Bollywood’s go-to designer and one of television’s favourite style consultants, Sabyasachi Mukherji is back with NDTV Good Times’ Band Bajaa Bride. Unlike other seasons of the show, this time even the grooms will have a makeover along with the brides.
Speaking about it Sabya says, “A bride alone cannot complete the picture. When people post wedding pictures on social media, both the bride and groom’s outfits are equally noticed, which is why we are working with couples this season. I keep coming back to this is because as a brand, I have little time left for consumers. And as a designer it’s important to be in touch with regular brides from different backgrounds and know what works for them.”
Sharing his experience of working with brides over the years, the designer says, “I’ve faced a lot of bridezilla moments. Every bride has strange requests; they have too many ideas in their mind and want to have everything. I’ve rarely met a girl who knows exactly what she wants. Every bride has such big dreams about her wedding look.”
Speaking of what women want, who according to him make the best sartorial choices among Bollywood’s women “I love the choices that Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra make in terms of fashion.”
So what’s big this trend this wedding season “Going traditional is big this season. I think it’s also because PM Modi has been promoting Indian culture so much,” Sabya says.
While he spends hours in his studio making sartorial wins, his personal style is rather simple, he tells us: “I stick to my white shirts and blue jeans, simple trousers. Looking like a new person every day, isn’t on my mind.”
