Sarbjit to be screened at Cannes
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan left for the French Riviera on Thursday, to attend the Cannes Film Festival yet again. This time round, the actress has more reason to be excited about her trip, as her movie Sarbjit is to be screened at the prestigious film festival.
Omung Kumar’s upcoming Sarbjit will be screened at Cannes today, and a press conference will be held tomorrow. Soon after Mary Kom’s success last year, Omung had expressed his desire to take this movie to Cannes and has now managed to do so. The film’s lead actor Randeep Hooda, currently recovering from an appendicitis surgery, will not be able to attend the film festival, following doctors’ instructions.
The trip is also special for Aishwarya, since it marks 15 years of her attending the film festival. At a press conference earlier, the actress had said that she believed Cannes was the best platform for showcasing her upcoming movie.
Sarbjit is a biopic on the life of Sarabjit Singh, an Indian farmer who inadvertently crossed over the border to Pakistan. He was subsequently arrested, jailed and put on death row. Aishwarya stars in the movie as Dalbir Kaur, Sarabjit’s sister, who underwent a tumultuous journey of 23 years to secure her brother’s release from the Pakistani prison. The movie is slated to be released worldwide on May 20, with an early release in the UAE on May 19.
