Why were Saif and Shahid not happy with Julia
It seems the actors wanted the title changed from Julia to Rangoon, as they didn’t want the film to seem women-centric
If industry sources are to be believed, then Vishal Bharadwaj’s film Rangoon was earlier titled Julia. So why the change Turns out the men in the film — Shahid Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan — didn’t think it was a good idea to give out the impression that it’s a women centric film, especially when the male characters have meaty roles. Kangana Ranaut plays a central character in the film, that of a dancer called Julia.
The film is a biopic on actress and stuntwoman Mary Evans Wadia, popularly known as fearless Nadia. It is set in the backdrop of the Second World War, the period when the British Army had fought against the Indian National Army in Burma, which was known as Rangoon at that time. The film is supposedly a love triangle where the men are integral to the core plot.
A source said, “Vishal had earlier titled the film Julia but the title was making it look like a women-centric film. The makers thought that people might get confused. Also it was heard that both Shahid and Saif were not very comfortable with that title and they too
wanted it changed. And since the film is set in the backdrop of WWII, they it changed to Rangoon.”
