TVS Akula 310 spotted with vertically stacked LCD screen

TVS is going to launch its 300cc model by the end of this financial year.

The upcoming fully faired motorcycle from TVS, the Akula 310 (Apache RTR 300) has been spotted testing on multiple occasions now. However, the latest spy pics reveal some new information about the motorcycle. The recent spy pics, taken near the TVS' manufacturing facility in Hosur, reveal that the motorcycle features an unconventional vertically stacked, all-LCD instrument console. It is similar to the instrument cluster of the racing concept model showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo.

The entire dashboard of the TVS Akula 310 is closely visible in the spy pictures, however, the ignition is turned off so we can't say anything about its functions. What we can see in the picture is a big LCD screen that will feature a tachometer, odometer, multiple trip meters and fuel gauge for sure. We also expect it to get a digital clock, lap timer, top speed and sprint recorder, gear positioning indicator and service reminder. There are multiple telltale lights above the LCD screen and a shift indicator on its right side. Two setting buttons have also been provided, one on each side of the screen.

We can also see the interesting split pattern headlamp on the sporty fairing of the TVS Akula 310 production test mule, which was missing in the concept model. The bike also gets a completely new rear section with revised frame, split seat and an LED tail lamp inspired by shark fins. Other tweaks in the bike are slightly upraised handlebars and new exhaust muffler and it will also get rear view mirrors on the road-going model.

TVS

We already know that the upcoming TVS flagship is based on the BMW G 310 R that is also being manufactured by the Indian manufacturer for both domestic as well as the international markets. Both the bikes use the same 313cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine that makes 34PS of power and a peak torque of 28Nm in the naked iteration. However, the figures could be slightly different in the faired model. Other features it shares with its German sibling are the exhaust muffler, front inverted forks, rear monoshock, alloy wheels and the India-made Michelin tyres. The braking setup of the TVS Akula is different and it gets TVS signature petal disc brakes on both ends.

We already reported that TVS is going to launch its 300cc model by the end of this financial year, i.e. before March 31st, 2017. That means the bike is about to be launched within just two months. It is expected to be priced under Rs 2 lakh, which will make it a strong competitor against the Yamaha YZF-R3, Kawasaki Ninja 300, Honda CBR250R, KTM RC 390 and the upcoming Benelli Tornado 310R.
