Datsun confirms more powerful Datsun redi-GO
Datsun will finally update the redi-GO with a new and more powerful 1.0-litre engine. The 1.0-litre engine will be borrowed from the Renault Kwid, same as the 0.8-litre. As you might already know, the Datsun redi-Go and the Renault Kwid are based on the same platform and even share the same mechanicals. The Kwid 1.0 is quite popular in the Indian market and even comes with an AMT transmission.
The 1.0-litre engine here has a capacity of 999cc and produces 68PS of power and 91Nm of torque. These figures will most likely remain the same in the redi-GO as well. Mated to this engine will be a 5-speed manual transmission but we won't rule out the possibility of an AMT transmission as well, though at a later stage. Currently, the Datsun redi-GO is powered by a 799cc three-cylinder mill which produces 54PS of peak power and 72Nm of maximum torque. This engine is mated to a 5-speed transmission.
Currently, the Datsun redi-GO rivals the Maruti Suzuki Alto and the Renault Kwid. After this update, it will rival the same bunch’s one-litre counterparts - the Alto K10 and the Kwid 1.0-litre. Prices for the redi-GO start from Rs 2,41,200 ex-Delhi. Expect a price bump of about Rs 25,000 for the 1.0-litre option, which will most likely be available with the S and Sport variants.
