PUNE: Maruti Suzuki, India’s biggest car maker, said it is recalling 1,81,754 units of petrol trims of various models, including Ciaz, Ertiga, Vitara Brezza, S-Cross and XL6 to replace a faulty motor generator unit. The motor generator unit helps in giving more power to the engine.

In a regulatory filing on Friday, the company said as a responsible corporate and keeping in mind customer safety, it was proactively undertaking a recall of some petrol variants of Ciaz, Ertiga, Vitara Brezza, S-Cross and XL6 models.

This is to inspect for a possible defect in 1,81,754 units of these models manufactured between May 4, 2018 and October 27, 2020, Maruti Suzuki said.
Recall campaigns are undertaken globally to rectify faults that may be potential safety defects, it noted.

Affected vehicle owners would receive communication from Maruti Suzuki authorised workshops.

The replacement of the affected part will be free of cost and will start from the first week of November. Till then, customers are requested to avoid driving in water-logged areas and direct water spray on electrical/electronic parts of vehicles, the firm advised.

The customers of suspected vehicles can also visit the ‘Imp Customer Info’ section on the company websites www. marutisuzuki.com (for Ertiga and Vitara Brezza) or www.nexaexperience. com (for Ciaz, XL6 and S-Cross) and fill-in their vehicle’s chassis number (MA3, followed by 14 digit alpha-numeric number) to check if their vehicle needs any attention. The chassis number is mentioned in the RC, it said.
