Renault Captur launched at Rs 9.99 lakh
Renault has finally launched its all-new SUV, the Captur, in India. Its prices start at Rs 9.99 lakh and go up to Rs 13.88 lakh (Both prices ex-showroom, Delhi) for the top-spec Platine variant. These prices are introductory and hence, are expected to be hiked in the near future. The Captur has been slotted above the Duster and will take on the segment’s bestseller, the Hyundai Creta. Despite being based on the Duster, what sets it apart is its new design. It is also offered with dual-tone exteriors, priced at Rs 17,000 over the standard variants. Prices (ex-showroom New Delhi)
On the outside, the Renault Captur has a quintessential European crossover flavour to it with a sloping bonnet and a steeply raked A-pillar. Adding muscle to the design are the contoured bonnet and the high and bold front grille. In terms of features, it comes with LED headlamps and DRLs, cornering fog lamps, LED elements in the taillamps and 17-inch alloy wheels. A unique feature of the Captur is the dynamic turn signal at the front that swoop towards the direction of the turn just like in a modern Audi. Apart from these, the Captur also comes with a lot of personalisation options in the form of accessories and body graphics.
The Captur gets a premium looking cabin with seats finished in white and black faux-leather, a touchscreen infotainment system with inbuilt navigation, a semi-digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control with rear AC vents, cruise control, rain sensing wipers and automatic headlamps. In terms of safety, all variants of the Captur get dual airbags as standard while the top-end Platine gets 4 airbags.
Powering the Renault Captur is a 1.5-litre diesel engine which develops 110PS of power and 240Nm of torque. It comes mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. The petrol engine is a 1.5-litre motor and 5-speed manual transmission. This motor produces 106PS of power and 142Nm of peak torque. For those looking for an automatic option, expect Renault to launch a petrol variant equipped with an automatic gearbox later next year.
In terms of dimensions, the Captur stands at 4329mm x 1813mm x 1619mm (L x W x H). This makes it 59mm longer, 33mm wider and 11mm shorter than the Hyundai Creta. When compared Maruti S-Cross, it is 29mm longer, 28mm wider and 24mm taller. Also, the Captur shares it 2673mm wheelbase and 210mm ground clearance with the all-wheel-drive Duster. The boot space is rated at 392-litres.
The Captur definitely has the looks and its size going for it, but will it be enough to attract customers from the Hyundai Creta? We will soon find out. Till then, check out the following stories and the first drive review.
