Tata Introduces Tiago AMT at Rs 5.39 Lakh

The automatic variant is Rs 40,000 dearer than the top-spec manual.

Tata's popular hatchback, the Tiago has a new update now. The petrol-powered Tiago is now available with an automated manual transmission. It is priced at Rs 5.39 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) and is only available in the top-spec, XZA variant. The automatic variant is Rs 40,000 dearer than the top-spec manual.

Just like our Tata Nano long-termer, the Easy-Shift gearbox on the Tiago AMT also features a manual mode in addition to the usual automatic, neutral and reverse. It also gets two drive modes - Sports and City which Tata claim are for "a peppy driving experience and city cruising" respectively. The gearbox also features a 'creep' mode that lets the car crawl ahead when the brakes are released without needing accelerator input.

Coming to the heart of the matter, the AMT is available with Tata's Revotron petrol motor. The 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder engine develops 85PS of power and 114Nm of torque. Tata claims an ARAI-certified efficiency of 23.84kmpl for the manual version of the petrol Tiago, and we reckon the AMT should deliver similar figures. That said, we are awaiting official confirmation from Tata on the same.

Considering that the AMT is available only in the top-spec XZA variant, it gets all the bells and whistles. Highlights include 14-inch alloy wheels, an 8-speaker Harman audio system, dual airbags and anti-lock brakes. The Tiago AMT will lock horns with the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Ignis and Celerio AMT, and the automatic variants of the Hyundai Grand i10 and the Honda Brio. We will get our hands on the Tiago automatic for a proper road test, stay tuned to Zigwheels for an in-depth review, coming soon!
