2017 Skoda Octavia launched at Rs 15.49 lakh

Essentially a mid-life update, the 2017 Octavia isn't a whole lot different compared to the outgoing one.

Skoda India has finally launched the 2017 Octavia facelift in the country at a starting price of Rs 15.49 lakh for the base-spec Ambition trim. The Octavia is Skoda’s highest selling model in India, and the new facelift comes with cosmetic changes and new equipment. Here are the ex-showroom prices of all the variants.

The updated avatar of Skoda India's best-seller has been launched. Prices start at Rs 15.49 lakh for the base-spec Ambition trim.

In case you aren't sure which variant to pick, we've got you covered. Head over here for a breakdown of the variants.

On the face of it (quite literally), the Octavia looks brand new. The quad-headlamp setup and the wider butterfly grille make it look wide and aggressive. The front headlamps are of the LED variety, and so are the tail lamps which now get revised detailing. Overall proportions of the car remain unaltered, and the only change you'd spot in the profile would be the new 16-inch alloy wheels.

 Skoda Octavia

There's not much new to talk about on the inside as well. The same well-built, typically Skoda cabin is inviting and is loaded with tech. Goodies on the top-spec Style Plus version include dual-zone climate control, rear air-conditioning vents, electrically adjustable seats with memory, and a massive panoramic sunroof.

The update to the cabin comes in the form of a larger 8.0-inch touchscreen which replaces the outgoing 6.5-inch unit. What's more is that the screen simply dissolves into the glass panel for the touch sensitive controls, making the screen look larger than it actually is. Skoda has also thrown in configurable ambient lighting into the mix, that lets you choose between 10 shades right from the classic Skoda green to a questionable purple.

Space on the inside remains identical to the outgoing car, so it continues to be a spacious abode for four. Boot space is rated at 590 litres that goes up to a mind blowing 1580 litres if you fold the rear seats.

The Octavia soldiers on with the same three engines as before. Petrol-powered options include a 150PS/250Nm 1.4 TSi and a 180PS/250Nm 1.8 TSi motor. The smaller engine is available exclusively with a 6-speed manual, whereas the bigger engine can only be had with a 7-speed DSG. The 2.0-litre diesel, on the other hand, lets you choose between a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed DSG. Power output remains unchanged at 140PS/320Nm.

Here's the ARAI-certified efficiency for all engines:

- 1.4 TSi (MT) - 16.7kmpl

- 1.8 TSi (AT) - 15.1kmpl

- 2.0 TDi (MT) - 21kmpl

- 2.0 TDi (AT) - 19.5kmpl

On the safety front, there's a new fatigue detection system on offer. The Octavia can be had with a minimum of four airbags in the base-spec Ambition trim, and a total of eight in the top-spec Style Plus variant. Other safety features include multi-collision braking, anti-lock brakes and traction control.

Skoda is going the extra mile to mend its ways in the service department. The Octavia will feature a standard 4 year/100,000 km warranty. For an additional Rs 39,999 buyers can opt for the Skoda Maintenance Package, that covers four periodic services for 4 years/60,000 km.

The Octavia is fighting an uphill battle with the likes of the Toyota Corolla Altis, the Hyundai Elantra and the Volkswagen Jetta.
