Harley unveils new Forty-Eight and Street Glide
New Delhi: US-based Harley-Davidson has introduced two motorcycles in the Indian market on Thursday, Forty-Eight Special and Street Glide Special. The Forty-Eight Special has seen a hike of Rs 40,000 over the standard model at Rs 10.98 lakh. On the other hand, Street Glide Special remains unchanged at Rs 30.53 lakh (both, ex-showroom India).
Loaded with some upgrades, the changes in Forty-Eight special are visual and also in the ergonomics. The Forty-Eight Special comes with a different, shorter version of an ape-hanger-styled handlebar that raises the rider's hands up and brings them slightly forward. The standard and special variants of the motorcycle are both powered by the same 1,202cc, air-cooled, V-twin engine in the same state of tune. Harley-Davidson India has not revealed power figures produced by its 'Evolution' engine. Meanwhile, peak torque produced is 97nm at as low as 3,500rpm.
Sajeev Rajasekharan, Managing Director, Harley-Davidson India said "Harley-Davidson was one of the earliest entrants in the premium motorcycle category in India. Completing 10 years in India is just the beginning as we remain the cruiser of choice for many riders. With the all-new Forty-Eight Special, Harley-Davidson India takes its motorcycle line up to 17 Models".
"One out of every two premium motorcycles in India is a Harley Davidson," he added.
The Street Glide Special represents Harley's famous Touring line-up. This motorcycle is powered by a 1,868cc Milwaukee-Eight 114 engine that makes a massive 163nm of torque at 3,000rpm. 2019, the Street Glide Special features the brand's 'Boom! Box GTS' system, which is a 6.5-inch full-TFT display touchscreen that works as an infotainment system, allowing the user to control music, phone calls, messages and navigation while on the go.
The Harley-Davidson Forty Eight Special will compete against the Indian Scout Bobber, while the Street Glide Special will go up against the Indian Chieftain. Bookings of both motorcycles have already commenced at all Harley showrooms in the country, and deliveries are expected to start within a week.
