2018 Volkswagen Polo to be unveiled on June 16

The hatchback will be unveiled in Berlin on June 16, ahead of its first public appearance at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

The new generation of Volkswagen's most popular hatchback, the Polo, will be unveiled on June 16. The German automaker is also reminiscing the outgoing Polo and older generations of it by sharing information about them on YouTube. As far as the upcoming Polo is considered, it is likely to be muscular as compared to the current generation.

The hatchback will be unveiled in Berlin on June 16, ahead of its first public appearance at the Frankfurt Motor Show that will be held in September this year. While the event is open to select members of the press, the event will be streamed live starting at 2:30pm (IST) on Friday. Will it come to India? Well, we aren't entirely sure about that just as yet. Sources close to Volkswagen India indicate that the only all-new product in the pipeline is the upcoming Passat. Expect VW to introduce some more special editions of the existing line-up, or add more features to the mix to make the package more lucrative.

Volkswagen Polo

The all-new Polo will be based on VW's modular 'MQB' platform that underpins everything from the new Volkswagen Tiguan to the Skoda Superb to the Audi A4. Globally, engine options are likely to include the 1.0- and 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol motors, as well as an updated version of the 1.6-litre diesel engine. The 1.2- and 1.8-litre TSI engines will be dropped from the Polo's lineup. Though unconfirmed, it is possible that the next-gen Volkswagen Polo GTI will be powered a 2.0-litre TSI (from the India-bound Skoda Octavia RS). Notably, Volkswagen has also pulled out of the Auto Expo 2018, which means we won't be getting an in-the-metal view of the new hatchback anytime soon.
